Naturalization
Become a US Citizen
We guide clients from green card holders to proud US citizens with precision and care.
Naturalization is the legal process by which an eligible lawful permanent resident (green card holder) can obtain US citizenship and gain all the rights and responsibilities that come with it. Once naturalized, individuals can:
- Vote in federal elections
- Apply for a US passport
- Sponsor family members for green cards
- Gain protection from deportation
- Access additional federal benefits and job opportunities
Eligibility
To apply for naturalization, you must generally meet the following criteria:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Have been a lawful permanent resident (LPR) for at least 5 years (or 3 years if married to a US citizen)
- Have maintained continuous residence and physical presence in the US for at least 30 months of the previous 5 years (or 18 months of the previous three years if you are a spouse of a US).
- Demonstrate good moral character.
- Be able to read, write, and speak basic English.
- Pass a US history and civics test.
- Take the Oath of Allegiance, which means a person must be loyal to the principles of the US Constitution.
There are certain exceptions and accommodations available based on age, disability, or military service.
Application Process
Prepare and File Form N-400 with all supporting documents (Green card, Evidence of marital status, if applying based on marriage, and Records of any name changes) and applicable fee.
The next step is to attend a biometrics appointment. It will be scheduled after successful Form submission for fingerprinting and background checks.
Once approved, you will attend a naturalization ceremony to take the Oath of Allegiance and officially become a US citizen.
